Though the idea dates back to the 1980s, the V60 was officially released in 2004 after years of development. Hario’s designers questioned whether a parabolic shape could produce a clearer brew by allowing water to pass through the coffee grounds, rather than steeping them as with traditional immersion brewers. They were right.
The “V60” name comes from its 60-degree V shape—what Hario calls a “shape of nature.” Each ceramic dripper is made using Arita yaki, a porcelain method with a 400-year legacy. Sourced from fine local clay, Arita porcelain is known for its clarity and smooth finish. To this day, V60s are crafted in the town of Arita, Japan, continuing a rich tradition of ceramic artistry.
