Though the concept dates back to the 1980s, the V60 was officially released in 2004 after years of research and refinement. Hario’s designers wondered whether a parabolic shape might yield a cleaner-tasting cup by allowing water to pass directly through the coffee bed, rather than steeping it—as was typical of immersion brewers. They were right.
The name “V60” comes from its 60-degree V shape—what Hario calls a “shape of nature.” The plastic version is especially great for travel, easy to pack and hard to break. It’s also forgiving in the early-morning rush—unlike the ceramic version, this one can survive a drop on the cafe or kitchen floor.
